We are seeking a motivated and talented Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team and drive the design and development of our groundbreaking wind-powered ship class. In this role, you will collaborate with a dynamic group of engineers, naval architects, and researchers to develop cutting-edge mechanical systems for our wind-powered ship class.

Your Tasks

Develop the ground station (including the launching and retrieving system) for the kite propulsion of our wind-powered ships, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and reliability requirements.
Develop detailed mechanical designs for the ground station, including structural components, mechanisms, and subsystems.
Create 3D models and detailed drawings using CAD software (in SolidWorks) and participate in prototyping and testing of core mechanical components.
Conduct engineering calculations and strength analyses (FEM) (with the SolidWorks toolbox) to optimize mechanical designs for efficiency and durability.
Define requirements for the ground station and identify and select suitable suppliers for the system.
Coordinate internal and external multi-disciplinary project stakeholders (naval architecture, embedded, control engineering).
Manage the entire design lifecycle from concept to production.
Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including design specifications, CAD models, and engineering drawings.
Prepare comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test reports, and user manuals, also for class approval.
Ensure designs adhere to relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements (from class societies).

Your Profile

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or related field.
5+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in onboard equipment (e.g. cranes, heavy-lift equipment) or airborne wind energy systems.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) .
Experience in developing, designing, manufacturing and testing complex, reliable products from scratch.
Strong competencies in designing and integrating hydraulic systems.
Strong understanding of mechanical principles, structural analysis, and material properties.
Passion for heavy machinery, such as cranes, excavators or similar.
Network to and experience in working with system suppliers.
Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, results-oriented approach.
Motivated, independent and reliable way of working.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a young and dedicated team.
Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
Willingness to travel to perform hardware tests at different locations.
Kitesurfing, paragliding or sailing experience (including associated certificates: SBF/ SKS) is a plus.
Proficient German skills are a plus.
EU work permit (CargoKite does not provide any visa sponsorship for this role).
